Reviews - Time out guide:

Stepping from the coblestones of Dublin's Temple Bar into The Chameleon is like entering a whole new world. Fabulous far eastern decor makes for a true Indonesian experience in this small, inviting restaurant. Add dim lights, low music and deep colours and the atmosphere is even more exoctic. Taking off our shoes, we were seated on a raised platform, surrounded by luxurious cushions & gilded wall fittings. Within seconds, water & Krupuk Crackers were placed on our low wooden table and the friendly staff were on hand to help us with their unusual menu. The menu in The Chameleon is not your average restaurant fare. Instead of the traditional A-La-Carte, Chameleon specialises in set meals. Diners choose from one of the several Rijst Tafels, each one ontaining a sample of several tasty Indonesian dishes. One of these set meals contains the equivalent of starter & main course for any hearty appetite. Vegetarians will be pleased to note there is a whole set menu to cater for the non carnivores among us.

Three small hot plates placed on the table signalled the arrival of our chosen set meal. Each dish was a delight to the eye and to the pallette. Chicken cooked in a delicious coconut and turmeric sauce, while prawns arrive in an almond nut sauce. The fried egg noodle, known as Bami Goreng, cooked in a mild sauce with beansprouts, ginger and garlic with their smooth slipery texture contrasted perfectly with the sate chicken in a peanut dressing.
